Summer has once again flown by! You may or may not be thinking about what back to school means – supply shopping, sports, homework, bus rides. But an important thing to consider is whether your child is up to date with immunizations!

If your child was previously up to date on their childhood immunizations before kindergarten, these are the additional required vaccines for school entry parents can expect their children to need at the listed grade levels:

-Kindergarten: MMR (Measles, Mumps, rubella) and Varicella (chickenpox) combo vaccine DTaP (Diptheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis) and IPV (polio) combo vaccine

-7th grade: Tdap (Tetanus) MCV4 (Meningococcal vaccine covering 4 different strains) HPV (not required but recommended)

-11th grade (or once 16 years old): MCV4 booster

Here at Kidder County District Health Unit we have all these required vaccines on hand. If you ever question you child’s immunization status – you can always call us at 475-2582. Schedule an appt with us or with your child’s primary care provider to get your child up to date before school starts.

Can’t make it to regular office hours? We are happy to transport vaccine to the school and give to your child (usually just for older children, ages 12+) once school starts. All we need ahead of time is your permission and the required paperwork completed (stop in our office or we can mail/fax/email it to you). Have any questions on any vaccine? We would love to answer them.

Required immunizations are due by October 1st, 2022.
